I battled record breaking pollen count and setup my brand new POTA PERformer antenna at Park US-7860 Buford Trout Hatchery and successfully activated my first park! Thank you to all the stations who patiently answered my call and even played my silly add-on Q&A game where I asked...
"What was the first concert you ever attended?"
March 2, 2025 I had the privilege of volunteering as a radio operator for the 2025 Public Atlanta Marathon and worked at Hydration Station 8 along with the AKA sorority and these lovely ladies.Â
It was a first for me and learned a lot while meeting some great new friends.
A short video of me making a couple of contacts for 2025 Winter Field Day. Thank you to Tony Baldwin (K8BSR) and Gary Metzger (WB2RPW) for participating in Field Day and taking my calls. Such a great time talking to so many operators this year and practicing my SSB and CW skills.
Over Christmas 2024, the ISS sent down a series of 12 images to commemorate contacts they made throughout the year. I was able to get 3 or 4 of them but not of then were as clear as these. Still learning how to keep the signal strong due to the doppler shift. I'll do a video soon of how I set this up with my radio and the software I used.
Here are a few local repeaters I am listen to and I occasionally participate in a NET on these repeaters when my signal is strong enough. These and any other repeaters that you'd like to listen out for can be found on RepeaterBook.com.
These are a few ways I am learning and practicing morse code. If you are new to Morse Code, start with Morse Mania to start learning the letters and numbers. After that, I recommend shifting to Didahdit.com and start learning state abbreviations, words, and call signs. Crank up your character speed to at least 30 to learn so you don't get dits and dahs stuck in your head. To get faster and better at head copy, you need to memorize the "riffs" and sounds without doing a character translation in your brain.
VBand is an online chat program for sending messages entirely in CW. There is also a QSOBot that will interact with you to practice making contacts to be sure you're covering all the essentials.
This is a fun game where you use your CW character skills to blast falling words. Miss a letter and you start over.
